Skype와 Skype를 막는 이들, 누가 이길까?

Skype와 Skype Blocker 사이에 Skype를 금지시키기 위한 숨바꼭질이 한창이다.
지난 번 미국 일부 대학에서 Skype를 금지시킨 경우가 발생하는 것처럼, 많은 회사/대학/
국가에서 Skype의 기술적인 특징(누군가가 SuperNode가 되어 Traffic을 발생시키는 것)으로
인해 Skype를 막고자 하는 시도가 있어 왔다.

이번에 발표된 Skype 3.0에서는 Skype Software를 찾아내서(detect)해서 원천봉쇄하는 걸
방지하기 위해서 아래와 같은 방법을 사용한다고 한다.

There have been a number of subtle but important alterations in 3.0, including a change to the way the client opens encrypted UDP channel to other clients,
as well as to the packet lengths themselves.
Since the software was already extremely hard to detect, and uses an encrypted channel once calls have been started, blocking filters have depended on tracing small but telltale patterns such as this.

Skype를 detect하는 기술을 제공하는 대표적인 업체는 독일 업체인 iPoque이다.

사실 Skype를 막는 것에 어떻게 봐야 할 것인가에 대한 관점이 중요한데, 일반 유저에게 유용한
소프트웨어를 찾아내서 막는 것 자체가 더 못할 짓으로 판단된다.

이런 논란을 없애기 위해서는 Skype 기반 기술에 대한 좀 더 진지한 검토가 있어야 하겠다.
